He’s Finding It Harder To Be A Gentleman

Monday, June 4th, 2007

Looks like Electra, a DJ for Chicago’s alternative rock station Q101, decided to play Icky Thump in its entirety several days before its release. Guess who called the station directly to vent, from Spain no less? Leading man Jack White, busy performing on the Stripes’ European tour. Needless to say, Jack was pretty angry and choice words were exchanged, words like “naive” and “coward.”

Here’s the full story courtesy of MTV.com.

I won’t furnish an opinion about whether DJ Electra’s intentions were pure enough or whether Jack overreacted or any of it. Icky Thump is still coming out on June 19 and that’s all that matters.

I will say that there’s only one song the crestfallen DJ could play to express her feelings:

All alone and walking / Nobody’s talking / Why can’t you be nicer to me?

About The White Stripes

This site is about the group White Stripes. White Stripes is an American rock music duo from Detroit, Michigan, consisting of Jack White (principal songwriter, vocals, guitar, piano) and Meg White (drums, percussion, vocals). The group rose to prominence as part of the garage rock revival with their successful albums White Blood Cells and Elephant. The White Stripes are known for their raw, low-fidelity sound and simplicity of composition and arrangement, mostly inspired by punk rock, hard rock, American blues, folk rock, and country music. July 14, 2007, marked their tenth anniversary as a band, with a show held at the Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, selling out in twelve minutes.
